Advocacy for Inclusive Education
At Genesis Joy Schools, we hold firmly to the belief that education is a fundamental right and the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. For underprivileged children in informal settlements, access to quality education is often the difference between a life of limitation and a future full of possibility.
Yet, too many children in Kenya’s slums are left behind due to poverty, overcrowded public schools, or gaps in government policy. That is why we go beyond teaching in the classroom — we are committed to advocating for systemic change so that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
Working with Stakeholders
Over the years, Genesis Joy Schools has built partnerships with:
-
The Government of Kenya, especially through the Ministry of Education, to strengthen access to Free Primary Education.
-
Local and international organizations, including NGOs, faith-based institutions, and community-based groups, to enhance learning resources and improve school infrastructure.
-
Universities and academic partners, such as Strathmore University, which support our students through scholarships, mentorship, and school improvement projects.
These collaborations enable us to not only provide quality learning within our school walls but also contribute to broader conversations about equity and access in the national education landscape.
Championing Policy Change
Our advocacy efforts extend to the highest levels of government. Our founder has appeared before the National Assembly Parliamentary Committee on Education, where he made submissions on the critical role of alternative schools in slum areas — schools that, though not always formally covered under the Ministry of Education, are essential lifelines for children in underserved communities.
This engagement underscores our mission to ensure that policy decisions recognize, protect, and strengthen the vital role played by community-based schools like Genesis Joy in bridging the education gap.

Why Advocacy Matters
Advocacy is central to our mission because:
-
It gives a voice to marginalized children who are often unheard.
-
It influences policies that directly impact access, quality, and equity in education.
-
It builds partnerships that bring in resources, training, and opportunities for both learners and teachers.
-
It ensures that education in informal settlements is recognized and supported, rather than overlooked.
Our Vision for the Future
We envision a Kenya where no child is denied education due to poverty or geography. Through continued advocacy, partnerships, and community engagement, Genesis Joy Schools will keep pushing for an education system that is inclusive, holistic, and empowering for all.
