Welcome to Genesis Joy Schools

We believe education is more than classrooms and books — it is the key to transforming lives, restoring dignity, and building stronger communities.

Born in Mathare, one of Nairobi’s largest slums, we have grown into a safe haven and centre of hope for more than 500 children and youth. Through our transformative model, SLUMS-ED (Student Leaders Understanding My Sphere-Education), we go beyond conventional teaching to awaken identity, build resilience, and equip learners with purpose-driven skills that empower them to rise as catalysts of change in their God-given spheres of calling.

At Genesis Joy, we believe that every student deserves the chance to thrive in their God-given purpose. Here, education is not just about passing exams — it is destiny-shaping. Learners not only excel academically, but also discover their worth, unleash their potential, and step into the future with vision, values, and courage.

Guided by our vision “The Future is Me,” we are raising a generation of leaders, innovators, and role models, ready to transform communities and change the world.

Academics

At Genesis Joy Schools, we are committed to providing a seamless learning journey that nurtures every child from their earliest years through to young adulthood. Guided by Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), our academic structure ensures that learners grow in knowledge, skills, and character while smoothly transitioning across the four levels of education we offer: Pre-Primary, Primary, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary.
Pre-Primary

Playgroup – PP2
Our pre-school program fosters a joyful learning environment where little minds blossom through creative activities, social interaction, and early literacy and numeracy skills.

Primary

Grade 1 – Grade 6
From core subjects to arts and technology, our grade school curriculum ignites passion for learning, instilling essential skills and a love for exploration in a nurturing environment.

Junior School

Grade 7 – Grade 9
Focuses on critical thinking and problem-solving, equipping students with the academic foundation and real-world skills to confidently navigate their future pathways.

Senior School

Grade 10 – Grade 12
There are three academic pathways: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Arts and Sports Science, and Social Sciences. These pathways offer students a chance to specialize in their areas of interest and aptitude as they transition to higher education.

Slums, The new Faces of the Developing Cities!

SLUMS ED

At Genesis Joy, we believe that ending extreme exclusion — the core challenge of urban slums — begins with raising learners who are Engaged, Empowered, and Ethical. To achieve this, we place strong emphasis on purpose, identity, service learning, and human rights education, nurturing children and youth who can participate meaningfully in society and lead with integrity.

To drive this vision, we developed SLUMS-ED (Student Leadership Understanding My Sphere-Education) — a supplementary program that equips learners to see beyond limitation, embrace responsibility, and step into their spheres of influence as catalysts of transformation.

Our Alumni: From Mathare to the World

Over the years, Genesis Joy Schools has nurtured hundreds of learners who have gone on to excel in diverse spheres of life. At the heart of our model is the discovery of every child’s God-given calling within the Genesis Joy 7 Spheres of Influence — whether in Government&Military, the Arts Media&Entertainment, Sports, Religion-healthcare, Science Technology &Education, Family, or Business(Industry,Commerce&Finance).

Many of our students have earned scholarships to both local and international universities, while others have carved out successful paths in their chosen fields. What unites them is a shared story of resilience — overcoming poverty and hardship through the transformative power of education.

Today, our alumni are not only breaking generational cycles of poverty but are also contributing meaningfully to nation-building and inspiring the next generation of learners from Mathare and beyond. They stand as living proof that with opportunity, discipline, and determination, dreams can flourish even from the most unlikely places.

Advocating for Quality Education Access

At Genesis Joy Schools, we believe that every child deserves the right to quality education, regardless of their background. For children growing up in underprivileged communities, education is not just a classroom experience — it is a lifeline, a pathway out of poverty, and a gateway to opportunity.

Over the years, we have actively engaged in advocacy for better access to education, working alongside the Government of Kenya, local partners, and international stakeholders. Through these collaborations, we strive to improve learning environments, promote inclusivity, and ensure that no child is left behind.

By amplifying the voices of the most vulnerable, we continue to push for policies, partnerships, and resources that make education accessible, affordable, and transformative for all.
